Heroku Launches Platform API

Cloud application platform, Heroku, has released the Heroku Platform API. The Platform API allows developers to extend its cloud platform to third party applications and services. With the release, Heroku hopes to inspire apps built upon the Heroku platform, Heroku-based developer tools, and an expanded Heroku ecosystem into additional web services. The Platform API developed from an internal API that Heroku developers used to build tools like toolbelt and dashboard. Heroku wants to empower its developer community with the same tools it created for in-house use.

Last week, for the first time I had the opportunity to attend the Glue conference in Broomfield, CO. An aptly named conference, Glue’s mission is to provide a technical forum for web application builders, architects, and integrators to talk about the various technologies that stick together to make a web platform and its associated applications. It’s one of the most exciting and nerdy places you can go, and it’s well worth the investment if you’re in this industry. Perhaps one of the most interesting aspects of this conference is the co-mingling of Big Enterprise and Scrappy Start-up.

Orchestrate.io is a brand new data API designed to eliminate the need for deploying databases when building new applications or when adding new features to existing applications. In addition to developing and deploying the Orchestrate.io service for strategic partners, the seed funding will be used to expand the core development team and deploy the service across multiple cloud providers on several continents. True Ventures leads the Orchestrate.io funding which has also been joined by Frontline Ventures and Resonant Venture Partners.
