App.net, Dalton Caldwell’s proposed ad-free Twitter-alternative, has launched an experimental Developer Incentive Program to financially reward developers that create innovative and popular applications using the App.net API.
Our API directory now includes 255 SMS APIs. The newest is the Msg2send API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Twilio SMS API. We list 171 Twilio SMS mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of SMS APIs.
This past week 7 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 13 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Amazon Product Advertising, App.net, Highrise, National Weather Service NDFD and WebKnox. The most often used APIs this week are Facebook, National Weather Service NDFD and Twitter. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Music (3 APIs, 3 mashups), Social (3 APIs, 4 mashups) and Weather (1 APIs, 1 mashups).

San Francisco continues its dominance of the API job market, but this week brings us a new location we haven’t seen before: New Zealand. As more and more API-related jobs become available, it’s likely that they’ll continue to show up all over the world.
