There are a number of factors coming together to fuel the growth of APIs. Without a doubt, one is the corresponding growth of mobile devices and the distribution of services across multiple platforms. An API is often required to create one native mobile application and becomes incredibly important when supporting many devices. Sometimes these private APIs are made public, sometimes they aren’t.

Alibris Launches Marketplace for Books, Movies and Music

AlibrisAlibris, an online marketplace that brings together Indepenent sellers of popular, collectible and bargain books, music and movies has launched a Developer Network. The company is inviting developers to use its API to not only build applications but earn commissions via its affiliate program. The Alibris API exposes most of its data like current books, music and movies on sale, item information, seller information and item/seller reviews.

55 New APIs: SMS Text Messages, Cloud Email and Location Marketing

This week we added a whopping 55 new APIs to our API directory, making up for the prior holiday week. The new APIs include a handful of wine services, four email services, five SMS platforms, location-based marketing for retailers, a cloud hosting platform, a customer service chat platform and many more.
