Any company that makes an API knows that just having the API is not enough. A bare endpoint is probably worse than not having an API at all. To make your API and platform useful you need documentation, tools, examples and forums. If you are a successful API company you start developing a community of people that work with your service. The community shares ideas and helps each other out.
This past week 22 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 3 different APIs were used to build them. and one of the less frequently seen APIs includes Parse. The most often used APIs this week are DocuSign Enterprise and Google Maps. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (1 APIs, 1 mashups), Enterprise (1 APIs, 19 mashups) and Backend (1 APIs, 1 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups.
This past week 8 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 14 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Cloudmade Leaflet, ESPN, Payment Vision Pay, Payments Gateway, Paymentwall, QuickBlox and WordPress.org. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, Payment Vision Pay and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (3 APIs, 4 mashups), Payment (2 APIs, 3 mashups) and Blogging (1 APIs, 1 mashups).
This past week 15 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 7 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include TVRage. The most often used APIs this week are DocuSign Enterprise, foursquare and Twitter. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Retail (1 APIs, 1 mashups) and Reference (1 APIs, 1 mashups).
In the past week we have had three outstanding business mashups named Mashup of The Day. These mashups all used the DocuSign Enterprise API to help make business happen. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Music (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Telephony (1 APIs, 1 mashups) and Media Search (1 APIs, 1 mashups).
After last week’s flurry of activity we’ve got some new management role openings this week from Facebook and Mashery.
Busy week! We’ve got nine job openings this week in a variety of roles. Also notable this time around is the platform positions at companies not typically known for their API work: Visa, Bloomberg and Getty Images. As more and more companies continue to build an API strategy we’ll continue to see even more of these types of openings.
Our API directory now includes 443 enterprise APIs. The newest is the Swift-Kanban API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the LinkedIn API. We list 48 LinkedIn mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of enterprise APIs.
The API ecosystem has doubled in a year, but there are many companies yet to embrace the movement. A new open source management service, apiGrove, aims to ease these businesses into the future. The software is available on GitHub with Alcatel-Lucent (ProgrammableWeb’s parent company) as lead contributor, with support from other influential organizations.
