API Integration-platform-as-a-Service provider Zapier has introduced a new website and GitHub repo to collate code patterns for subscription-based webhooks. The site, RESThooks, provides API developers with easy-to-use methods for setting up a subscription layer on top of a webhook. The goal is to prevent inefficient polling of an API for data changes and updates.
This week we had 43 new APIs added to our API directory including a service to connect applications to HTTP URLs, online marketplace for event tickets, RSS feed reading service, application monetization platform and human body 3D imaging service. The term is fairly new and there is some debate as to the definition and features of vendors that would be classified in the iPaaS category. Zapier automates tasks between online services and APIs. Zapier provides seamless integration between almost 200 different web services. Additionally, Zapier just launched a new API Status Board. The API Status Board helps developers uncover downtime for any of the APIs Zapier integrates. Zapier co-founder and CEO, Wade Foster, told PW: “[W]e typically catch outages even before vendors are reporting them.”
APIs enable incredible customization. No longer are customers locked into a specific interface or feature set: they can modify and augment core functionality as they see fit. It is incredibly liberating, but just deploying any old API isn’t enough. You need to really understand how people use your API. Luckily, you can group most API usage into one of two buckets: reading and writing.
