The ever elusive Pinterest API made news once again this week when its documentation briefly appeared on the Pinterest developer site. Here at ProgrammableWeb, the Pinterest API profile is our most viewed page showing that developers are itching for more information. While the official API hasn’t been released, we’ve still seen a number of mashups that take advantage of Pinterest’s functionality. Below we highlight a few of them.
This past week 6 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 20 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Baidu, dlvr.it, Google Closure Compiler and Sina Weibo. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, Twitter and YouTube. For music fans who enjoy listening to playlists on their laptops or desktops, Tomahawk is a music player with a few extra bells and whistles that may be of some interest. It’s an open-source, cross-platform music player, which means it enables a user to play music stored on their own hard drives as well as from a variety of other music sources like Spotify, SoundCloud, YouTube and more. The Toma.hk API makes this functionality available to developers or users to add songs to websites.

The Wevideo API opens up this video-editing-in-the-cloud service. Technical information on the API is available directly from the company. Wevideo provides a solid set of editing and storyboard tools including a timeline and a library of soundtracks. Beyond that, the cloud gives movie editors something else: the ability to collaborate with ease. Because you can create copies of footage, different people can edit the same video as they please.
