Our API directory now includes 466 mapping APIs. The newest is the 1Map API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Google Maps API. We list an amazing 2454 Google Maps mashups.
Of the many APIs we published this week, ten were highlighted on the blog by our team of writers. In this post, we’ll launch those ten into the spotlight, which included the Sloan Digital Sky Survey API. The SDSS has captured images covering more than a quarter of the sky, containing more than 930,000 galaxies and 120,000 quasars. The API allows developers to do a cone search, retrieving whatever is available for a given position in the sky and a given radius about that position.
Wheelmap.org has created a user driven resource for identifiying wheel chair accessible locations. The open source platform allows anyone to add accessibility descriptions and update old ones. The company provides the Wheelmap API for integration of this growing resource.
This week we had 70 new APIs added to our API directory including a credit card identity service, open scoring service, application tracking service, online programming community and a media transcoding service. In addition we covered an API that lets users perform image tagging for fun and profit, and an API for creating personalized postcards. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.
