Plot.ly’s Plot to Visualize More Data

The Plotly API enables users to analyze and visualize data in one place, and forms an important step in building the infrastructure for data science to be further democratized. 23 APIs Used in 7 Days: Nexmo Wholesale SMS, Google Maps, Facebook

This past week 30 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 23 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include BookingMarkets, InfoChimps Datasets, Nexmo Wholesale SMS and Producteev. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, Twilio and Twilio SMS. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Photos (6 APIs, 7 mashups), Social (4 APIs, 10 mashups) and Messaging (2 APIs, 6 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:


Twitter Mashup Count Leaps Past Flickr

TwitterFor most of ProgrammableWeb’s nearly six years, there were two things that always remained true about the mashup directory. First, that Google Maps is the most popular API used to create mashups. And second, that Flickr is a distant second, but well ahead of third. Recently one of these is no longer true, as the Twitter API has passed Flickr in popularity.


Twitter’s Other Ecosystem: Twitter-derived APIs Double in One Year

TwitterLast April we wrote about How Twitter’s 1 API Gave Birth to 43 New APIs. One year later, there are now 86 Twitter-derived APIs in our directory. The growth of Twitter-based APIs outpaced Twitter mashups, an area we also saw a lot of growth. There are now nearly 600 Twitter mashups. It wasn’t even a year ago that we marked the 400 Twitter mashup milestone.
