25 APIs Used in 7 Days: Google Maps, Shopzilla and TwitPic

This past week 6 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 25 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include FAROO, Feedzilla, geoPlugin, Lockerz, NYC Open Data, San Francisco Crimespotting, Short and tweet, Twitgoo and yfrog. The most often used APIs this week are Feedzilla, Google Maps and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (5 APIs, 5 mashups), Photos (4 APIs, 4 mashups) and Mapping (4 APIs, 6 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

At YourTrove, a lot of what we do involves ingesting social content via APIs and then regularizing that data within our system. For a lot of data, this is pretty straightforward. For example, while Facebook and Flickr might return different meta data, or name fields differently, no one disagrees that a photo is a photo. This is true for essentially all uploaded binary user generated content.

FlickrThis week’s look at the newest and best mashups will focus on one of the most popular APIs, Flickr. With nearly 600 mashups, Flickr is the fourth most used API in our directory. Each of the mashups below have been added since November and make good use of Flickr.

This past week 17 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 42 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include 7digital, Bandcamp, Bol.com , Dailymotion, deviantART, Facebook Ads, Facebook Chat, Facebook Credits, Issuu Search, Mapfluence, NOAA ERDDAP, Ohloh, PhotoShelter, Stack Overflow, Urban Mapping Mapfluence, Urban Mapping Neighborhoods and Zenfolio. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, Twitter and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Photos (9 APIs, 16 mashups), Mapping (7 APIs, 11 mashups) and Social (7 APIs, 10 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:
