Okay, spot the New Year’s resolution that’s different: lose weight, exercise, stop procrastinating, build one App every weekday using APIs. Yeah. That last one is the focus of Purchase College student Ali Fairhurst. She’s created a website of her work, APIaday, pledging to build a new App 5 days a week through January.
Our API directory now includes 97 games APIs. The newest is the Ryzom API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the SecondLife API. We list 7 SecondLife mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of games APIs.
If you like online games and you like programming, the growing number of games with open APIs is a boon. We now over 20 games-related APIs in our directory. The latest entry is for the new API for Spore, the Electronic Arts Maxis game where players can create their own creatures. The API provides developers with the capability to create mashups and applications that access the Spore database of user creations and information about the creators themselves (see our new Spore API profile for details).
Back in May we reported on a deal struck between Sony and Google to integrate the YouTube API into the PlayStation 3, allowing game developers to let players record videos during gameplay and upload them directly to YouTube.
The most popular video API is about to become more popular. As just announced by Googe’s Jim Patterson on the YouTube blog, YouTube Everywhere, the YouTube API has just been upgraded with some very powerful new features.
