This past week 18 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 39 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include AngelList, Elance, EPA Station Catalog, EPA Watershed Summary, Google Sites , Google Translator Toolkit , Mapfluence, MediaTemple and RPM Software. The most often used APIs this week are foursquare, Google Maps and Twitter. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (6 APIs, 10 mashups), Mapping (5 APIs, 7 mashups) and Shopping (5 APIs, 6 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:
The holiday shopping season is upon us, and that means finding gifts, and at this point… quick! For consumers, it translates into searching and researching, and lots of it in a relatively small amount of time. It also means shoppers are looking for innovative websites or applications to aid them in finding gifts, low prices, and sweet deals — all while making the shopping experience more enjoyable.

E-Commerce covers a broad range of inter-connected processes which eventually leads to a transaction between two or more parties. Recent enhancements in technology, specifically social interactions on the Web, have increased the complexity in analyzing these processes and describing E-Commerce as a whole. And, to be honest, there is a lot of confusion within the terminology of “E-Commerce” itself. Lately we’ve seen some fun shopping mashups that aren’t just simple price comparison apps. Instead these use the APIs–mostly Amazon Product Advertising API–to track your collections, keep up-to-date with entertainment and find products in a fun, conversational way.

The web makes everything global and yet, everything is also local. APIs allow content and data to be filtered to just the stuff we need. The collection of great mashups below take advantage of those features to show local content to anyone, using location as a filter.
