One of the most consistently popular types of mashup is the search mashup. Our directory lists over 900 search mashups making it the third most popular type submitted. This week we’re highlighting some of these mashups that have caught our eye in recent months. They go beyond searching the web and allow users to conduct searches on social platforms, data and historical archives. Read below for more details.

This past week 19 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 30 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Clicky, CloudMine, Ergast, Idescat, Library of Congress Prints & Photographs, PubNub JavaScript Push, SHOUTcast Radio and Teambox. The most often used APIs this week are DonorsChoose, Google Maps and LinkedIn. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Music (6 APIs, 6 mashups), Social (3 APIs, 3 mashups) and Internet (3 APIs, 3 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:
Who ever said that institutions were loathe to change? Well call him up and let him know, the Library of Congress, with their Prints and Photographs API has finally taken the REST API plunge. If this government institution can do it, maybe you can convince the head of your IT department that APIs are a good idea too.
