GeoNamesOur API directory now includes 531 reference APIs. The newest is the CanLII API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the GeoNames API. We list 88 GeoNames mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of reference APIs.

Kasabi Helps Take Data as a Service to A New Level

KasabiKasabi has just moved into public beta. The private beta is over, and Kasabi is openly ready and willing to become your data marketplace. This is similar to what the primates over at InfoChimps are doing: building a community around data sets and APIs. The Kasabi API collection feels like a first attempt at standardizing the task of designing an API for accessing a dataset.

15 New APIs: Device Location, Stock Prices and Disposable Email Addresses

This week we had 15 new APIs added to our API directory including a daily stock price lookup service, online rhyming dictionary, sms messaging service and online donation processing service. Below is more details on each of these new APIs.

Gowalla Leads in Openness, to Offer Place Data Download This Year

GowallaGowalla, the location-based social network, is beginning to establish itself as the most generously interoperable of its check-in–offering peers. At a SWSX panel last week about integrated location data, Gowalla co-founder and CTO Scott Raymond indicated that developers would soon even be able to download data en masse from Gowalla for their own manipulation and analysis. When asked by the moderator, Programmable Web Executive Editor Adam DuVander, “Can I download Gowalla’s data,” Raymond responded that providing the option was “definitely on the roadmap.”
