ThinkeryThinkery offers a tool where users can store notes, todos, and bookmarks. The Thinkery platforms keeps everything organized through a unique #hashtag system. With hopes that developers will create an ecosystem of apps and tools on top of the Thinkery platform, the company released the Thinkery API. The driving force behind Thinkery rings loud and clear in both its base platform and its API offering: “Your brain, organized.”

TwitterWhy, yes, developers did react (and over-react) wildly to yesterday’s news from Twitter outlining its plans for “version 1.1″ of its Twitter API. A major company is also making it easier for anyone to create a great API by turning its lifecycle methodology over to the commons. Plus: Google pushes Places, Microsoft set to revamp adCenter, Twilio goes to Africa and 10 new APIs.

Marky MarkdownifierIn what is surely a sign of the next big thing, there’s now an API named after Mark Wahlberg, or at least his 1990s rap alter ego. The Marky Markdownifier API can’t promise the good vibrations of a dance party from yesteryear, but it sure can convert HTML pages to markdown. And really, in 2012, no bunch is funkier than a developer tool that both consumes and provides an API.


50 APIs Used in 7 Days: Last.fm, Foursquare and Dropbox

This past week 8 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 50 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Acapela, APIfy, AuthorityLabs Account, AuthorityLabs Partner, Boxcar, Buffer, Diigo, Google Sites , Gravatar, Instapaper, Pinboard, Plurk, Pocket, Posterous, Readability , Scoop.it, Svpply, Weather Central, WordPress.com, Yammer and Zootool. The most often used APIs this week are Last.fm, Twitter and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (9 APIs, 10 mashups), Bookmarks (6 APIs, 6 mashups) and Internet (5 APIs, 5 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:


Instapaper and the Concept of Monetizing Your API

InstapaperIf you’re not familiar with Marco Arment’s Instapaper, here’s a quick break down. Instapaper is a great little service that allows you to store articles for later on your iPhone or iPad (as of this writing). Instapaper filled a huge gap. Not as high maintenance as an RSS reader, and 100% articles I saw somewhere but didn’t have the time to read.

This past week 25 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 36 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include AgentRank, Amazon RDS Relational Database Service, Burstn, Facebook Social Plugins, Foxrate, Google Gmail OAuth, Google Prediction, Instapaper, Loxcel, PicPlz, Quora, SendGrid, Snapr and Twitter Streaming. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, Twilio and Twilio SMS. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (5 APIs, 5 mashups), Mapping (4 APIs, 9 mashups) and Database (3 APIs, 4 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:


Instapaper API Goes Read/Write, But Only For Paying Users

InstapaperRead-it-later service Instapaper has released what it’s calling a “full API.” With it, developers using the Instapaper API can create applications that both write to and read from the service. The full API is free to developers, but only paying users can read from their Instapaper account using third-party tools.
