Telerik Makes Framework for JavaScript Available via Open Source

With strong roots in the Microsoft ecosystem, Telerik has always been part of the commercial software landscape. But starting today Telerik, a provider of application development tools, is embracing open source. The company today announced Telerik Kendo UI Core, an open source implementation of the JavaScript framework and user interface tools that Telerik created for its cross-platform application development environments.


18F Counts On APIs To Help Government Improve Service Delivery

The White House’s General Services Administration (GSA) has established “18F,” a new department aimed at providing open source tools and demonstrating new ways of working with entrepreneurs and innovators to deliver digital services to government agencies, businesses and citizens.


Converter Makes JSON as Understandable as a Spreadsheet

Sunlight FoundationEric Mill, a developer at the Sunlight Foundation, has created a JSON-to-CSV converter where users can simply paste JSON code into a box and have the code automatically reformatted and re-colored, then converted into an easily readable table of data. A complete CSV of the table data can also be downloaded. The converter uses JavaScript so it runs without a server and the JSON conversions happen inside the browser.

US Government Urged to Standardize Internal API ToS

U.S. Government officials are being encouraged to provide comments and suggestions for a standard API Terms of Service (ToS). The hope is that a standard ToS could be used by any government agency making open data accessible via API. Launching the consultation via the Government API Google Group and on Github, key stakeholders believe the time is right to streamline the process of making API Terms of Service more relevant to developers who want to make use of government open data sources. Developers are now adding their feedback and perspectives to a Github issues repository.
