Our API directory now includes 44 energy APIs. The newest is the OpenADR API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Genability API. We list 4 Genability mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of energy APIs.
This past week 7 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 13 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Google URL Shortener, Huffington Post Pollster, Tixik and Wolfram Alpha . The most often used APIs this week are Google Latitude, Google Maps and Google Maps Data. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (4 APIs, 7 mashups), Reference (3 APIs, 3 mashups) and Social (1 APIs, 1 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:
Genability was founded in 2010 with a simple goal: “to empower consumers and producers to choose cleaner, cheaper power.” To reach its goal, Genability created and utilizes tools to gain insight into electricity usage. Genability now looks to focus its tools specifically at solar energy after becoming a SunShot Awardee. The Department of Energy (DOE)’s SunShot Initiative “aims to drive solar to cost-competition with other energy sources by 2020.” The $500,000 award allows Genability to develop the Genability API as well as ”Data tools to instantly and accurately calculate and optimize the savings of implementing solar PV.”
Often we like to highlight mashups that offer useful features such as searching for a new house, planning a vacation or saving on energy costs. Sometimes though, it’s nice to use a mashup for no other reason than it is fun. Today we’ll look at several gaming mashups that allow users to take a quiz, conduct a treasure hunt and even modify Minecraft.
This past week 11 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 25 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include 7digital, Cloudmade Leaflet, Data.gov.uk, Genability, Readmill and UK Street Level Crime. The most often used APIs this week are Facebook, Google Maps and Seatwave. Having an infant in the house combined with the winter weather has caused energy usage in our household to skyrocket. We are always keeping an eye out for ways to save and ProgrammableWeb lists great tools to help out. This week we’ll look at mashups that help users monitor their energy consumption, become educated on energy and encourage them to reduce how much energy they are using.
The CleanWeb Hackathon wrapped up this weekend in New York City, with the goal of building apps that explore sustainable business models leveraging the mobile and social web, challenging developers on what they can do in 24 hours with utility, transport and smart grid datasets, and APIs.
This week we had 19 new APIs added to our API directory including a phone number verification service, gift recommendation service, file sharing service, airfare tracking service and slideshow creation service. We looked in-depth at the Rdio music streaming API and the “Robin Hood of Travel”. Below is more detail on all 19 new APIs.
