This week we had 71 new APIs added to our API directory including a fantasy sports platform, restaurant menu and local business storefront API, web video dashboard, photo editing service, embedded search service and an application integration platform. We also covered a social media management tool adding its own API. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.
At the beginning of 2011 we reported that Collect had decided to drop it’s API in order to change their offering to something more profitable. But now ReadWriteWeb have reported the disappointing demise of Collecta. This has the potential of being the first big failure of a well funded real-time web focused company, so questions need to be asked about why this happened and why Collecta weren’t successful. Back in January of this year we asked “Is It Finally the End for Real-time Search Engines?” and it now looks like that very question is being raised again.
At ProgrammableWeb we have been monitoring the emergence of mashups and APIs since 2005, and while there has always been steady growth, this year has seen an accelerating acceptance of APIs as a business strategy. The most recent evidence is that over 60 API entries have been added to our database in the last 30 days.
Freelancers can use the FreeAgent money management tool for a variety of tasks, including project management, time tracking, and invoicing. Earlier this year the UK-based company released an API (in beta) that allows developers to tap into FreeAgent in several ways.
