With 2013 in full swing, it’s a good time to put a bow on the past year in mashups. In 2012, there were over 500 mashups added to our directory. Today we’ll take a look at some of the coolest mashups using APIs from Twitter, Bing, foursquare and more. Read below for more details on each and let us know what other great ones we missed.

This past week 10 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 18 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Google Client Authentication and MyWot. The most often used APIs this week are Facebook, Google Maps and Yahoo Search. A year ago we took a look at mashups that deliver the latest news to users. This week, we want to revisit that category and see what new tools have been created to help users find and read their news. These mashups use traditional search APIs such as Bing and Google as well as social APIs from Facebook to Twitter.

Having just looked at recommendation mashups in our directory, we now turn our eye to APIs in that category. Our API directory now includes 67 recommendations APIs. The newest is the Food Genuis API. And the most frequently used types of APIs were Mapping (6 APIs, 14 mashups), and Social (3 APIs, 7 mashups), Internet (3 APIs, 3 mashups).
