Global Hackathon Seeks PDF Extraction Solutions

An upcoming PDF Liberation Hackathon is aimed at raising developers’ skills in unlocking data from PDF sources. The hackathon will be held onsite in Washington D.C. and in San Francisco on Jan. 17 – 19, 2014, while international developers can also compete remotely. ProgrammableWeb spoke with organizer Marc Joffe about how API-focused developers can participate.

SXSW Accelerator Chock Full of APIs

Today thirty two startups will take the stage at SXSW Accelerator to battle to be named the best. Last year’s overall winner became the largest mashup acquisition ever when it was gobbled up by Apple a month later. Who will be the winner this year? Chances look good that it will have an API. 54 New APIs: Wikipedia, Live Chat, Text-to-Speech and Cloud Collaboration

This week we had 54 new APIs added to our API directory including a speech recognition service, business instant messaging software, blogging platform, event listing service and URL shortening. We looked more in-depth at some of these, including Wisconsin Transit Tracker, a Geo API for Wikipedia and Cohuman’s API Contest. Below is more detail on each of the 54 new APIs.
