This past week 7 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 14 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Amazon Product Advertising, The Movie DB, This Is My Jam and World Bank. The most often used APIs this week are Facebook, Flickr and Last.fm. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Music (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Social (2 APIs, 3 mashups) and Retail (1 APIs, 1 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Alexa Site Thumbnail, Moneybookers, Seesmic, and Web API for Biology. The most often used APIs this week are FriendFeed, Google Maps, Twitter. And the most frequently used types of APIs were Internet (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Social (3 APIs, 8 mashups), and Payment (2 APIs, 3 mashups).

Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include DandyId, Google Gears Geolocation, ikregeer.nl, ShopStyle, Summize Twitter Search, TwitterCounter, and VideoSurf. The most often used APIs this week are Flickr, Google Maps, and Twitter. Overall, the most active types of APIs were: mapping (7 mashups), news (6 mashups), and video (5 mashups). The tagline of the Times Open blog is “All the news that’s fit to printf()”, and that clever play on the paper’s motto gains more credence with each new API released. In February the Times introduced the Newswire API, which “provides an up-to-the-minute stream of published items” from the paper of record, and the New York State Legislature API for tracking the political maneuverings in Albany.
