With the weekend coming up let’s take a look back at the mashups that were added to the ProgrammableWeb mashup directory over the last couple of weeks. We’ll cover mashups that include a tool for local discovery, a jukebox for your phone, a political social network and an app showing real time statuses of DC metro lines. Read below for more details on each.
Our API directory now includes 82 address APIs. The newest is the 1Map API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the geocoder API. We list 41 geocoder mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of address APIs.
This past week 8 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 17 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include exfm, GeoNB, Mogreet and VK. The most often used APIs this week are SoundCloud, VK and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Social (4 APIs, 4 mashups), Music (4 APIs, 4 mashups) and Reference (2 APIs, 2 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

Our API directory now includes 316 government APIs. The newest is the Google Civic Information API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Sunlight Labs Congress API. For some time we’ve noted that SOAP is losing to REST and REST-like approaches. In fact, in most sectors, it’s already lost. 68% of the APIs in our directory are REST, while 19% are SOAP. But one area where SOAP has remained popular is the enterprise. Anecdotally, this may be changing, based on recent announcements, such as from the Cicero API.
This past week 14 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 31 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include AddThis Sharing Endpoints, Amazon CloudWatch, Cicero, Google Maps Elevation, TownMe Geo and Yahoo GeoPlanet. The most often used APIs this week are Amazon eCommerce, Google Maps and Google Maps Data. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (8 APIs, 16 mashups), Internet (6 APIs, 6 mashups) and Social (3 APIs, 4 mashups).

Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Cicero, GovTrack.us, Open Government Data Initiative, and Touchnote. The most often used APIs this week are Google Maps, GovTrack.us, and Twitter. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (4 APIs, 9 mashups), Government (3 APIs, 4 mashups), and Social (2 APIs, 4 mashups).
