With the start of September we start to bring summer to a close. With vacations ending and school starting, we usually see an uptick in submissions to our directory which means we see some cool mashups pass our way. This roundup of some of August’s mashups includes a biking simulator, a playlist creator using YouTube and more. Read below for more details on each mashup.
This past week 7 new mashups were added to our mashup directory and 21 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include Google Street View Image, Google URL Shortener, PagerDuty, Producteev, UserVoice and Yipit. The most often used APIs this week are Google Geocoding, Google Maps and YouTube. And the most commonly used types of APIs were Mapping (5 APIs, 7 mashups), Photos (2 APIs, 2 mashups) and Shopping (2 APIs, 2 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

Occasionally we’ll get a batch of submissions that all use an API to answer the same question. In the last couple of weeks we’ve seen a handful of mashups using the BuzzData API to help determine the cities with the best quality of living. These mashups were submissions for the Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) 2012 Best City Contest organized by BuzzData. The goal was to create the best visualization and determine where is the best city to live.
