Understanding cultural differences amongst developers (and between developers and the rest of the business) emerged as a key issue to address when designing APIs, according to a panel session on Creation, Design and Documentation of APIs at API Strategy and Practice in San Francisco today.
As the API Strategy and Practice conference prepares to see API developers, providers and related services descend on San Francisco later this week, the independent startup backed by 1C, AccountingSuite, is still riding the benefits of their participation in API World three weeks ago.
This week we had 43 new APIs added to our API directory including a service aimed to help government agencies utilize the internet to promote openness and citizen participation, an application to inform gym users of how busy the gym is, and a recipe database search engine. In addition, we profiled a savings account core processing platform.
Our API directory now includes 50 accounting APIs. The newest is the Accounting Suite API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Intuit Data Service API. We list one Intuit Data Service mashup.
Zend’s Apigility launches open source project Apigility for APIs. The prepaid product company Incomm enhances API to create more gifting functionality. Plus:Facebook expands API program for international broadcasters, and 12 new APIs.
DataWeek and API World are already a blur, with Day Two of the industry proceedings wrapping up late last night. A packed agenda saw as many as ten sessions all happening at once, creating a sense that perhaps this conference is trying to appeal to too many audiences at once, and making it more difficult to identify emerging trends across the API economy.
Several key themes were prominent across the day’s activities, however, including the increased trust emerging in financial APIs, continued discussion on viable business models for enterprises with an API and startups reliant on APIs, and the changing nature of API services that is seeing developers require greater business analysis skills.
Social Money launches CorePro, a core processing system that integrates savings accounts into third party platforms. AccountingSuite announces its first realtime API at API World Conference. Plus: StackMob unveils a service partner program and 10 new APIs.
