Intuit Inc. has announced the release of an updated version of the QuickBooks Online API which is now free to developers to use in building third-party applications. The company also announced the launch of Intuit Apps.com, a new store where users of QuickBooks and QuickBooks Online can find add-on applications that provide added functionality in categories including customer management, billing and invoicing, financial and sales management.
The updated QuickBooks Online API is now free to access (There are no connection fees) and there is also a Customer Account Data API available that provides programmatic access to data from approximately 19,000 financial institutions. Using these APIs, developers can create third-party applications for QuickBooks which can be offered to consumers through the new Intuit Apps.com app marketplace. Dan Wernikoff, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Intuit Small Business Financial Solutions, states for the press release that:
“Making the QuickBooks Online API free and easier to integrate gives developers the opportunity to build applications for our small business customers across the globe. By enhancing Apps.com, we’ve made it easier for small businesses to discover the best apps that help them customize QuickBooks and manage their businesses.”
The Intuit Apps.com app marketplace features primarily apps that are designed to work with QuickBooks data, however, some of the applications offered do not require QuickBooks to use. At the time of this writing, the most popular apps available at Intuit Apps.com include Method CRM, Time Tracking by TSheets and Time Tracker by eBillity. Method CRM is a customer relationship management tool designed specifically for QuickBooks. Time Tracking by TSheets and Time Tracker by eBillity are both apps that provide the ability to track employee hours and timesheets.
