Transports Publics Genevois (TPG), the primary public transportation system operator of the Geneva area, Switzerland, has officially launched the TPG Real-Time Open Data API which provides programmatic access to real-time, hourly TPG data such as commercial stops, traffic information and next departures.
According to a Lift Conference news post, the TPG Real-Time Open Data API (Version 1.1) is the first of its kind for public transport in Switzerland. The API provides access to real-time hourly TPG data that can be used to create innovative and beneficial applications for users of the Geneva area public transportation system as well as for travelers in Geneva and surrounding areas. Here are just a few examples of API functions and uses:
Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) has organized a TPG Real-Time Data Competition that will begin on September 18 and end on November 22, 2013. The competition was created to promote the new TPG open data platform and to encourage “citizens, programmers and designers to come up with ideas for apps and other creative use of that data.”
There will be a TPG competition workshop at the 2013 Open Knowledge Conference (OKCon) in Geneva, Switzerland on Wednesday, September 18th. It is not necessary to attend the competition workshop in order to participate in the TPG Real-Time Data Competition, the competition is open to all.
