HeyWatch Expands API Offering with Video Preview API

Eric Carter, June 3rd, 2013

HeyWatch, leading cloud video encoding service, has announced a new Video Preview API. Through the API, users can generate image previews from a video with hopes to inspire user engagement, conversions, and number of views. The API generates a storyboard style set of screenshots to intrigue a viewer. HeyWatch’s Eric Fontaine commented:

“We are very pleased to announce the release of our Video Preview API dedicated to video preview enhancement. As you know, there is always more video content available on the Web, but users always have less time to watch it. As a result, only great video content gets traffic, views, and conversions.”

HeyWatch launched its initial video encoding API in 2006. Since then, it has developed into the world’s leader in video encoding. The Video Preview API merely expands its current set of features to attract viewers to a video with high resolution thumbnails, animated GIF, and storyboards. If you currently use HeyWatch services, there is no additional cost for the Video Preview API.

The Video Preview API uses REST protocol and returns calls in a JSON data format. A few lines of code will generate a world class video preview experience. Developers can request a thumbnail, animated GIF, or storyboard preview through the API. For more information or to sign up, visit the API site.

The video content around the web continues to grow and compete for viewers attention. To convince viewers to play a video, regardless of length, content providers must capture interest with an intriguing preview. HeyWatch’s new API makes creating such previews simple and affordable.
