Romin Irani, April 30th, 2013

Jawbone announces UP platform

Jawbone, the provider of UP, a wristband and application that tracks and analyzes how to sleep. move and eat has launched the UP platform that integrates with several well known fitness and health applications. The UP platform can now integrate with data from well known fitness applications like RunKeeper, MyFitnessPal and more. Alternately, you can share your UP data with those apps, including detailed sleep and activity data, to make those experiences even better. Jawbone intends to open up the API for developers to building out UP integration into their own apps. Twitter API Terms as a Marketing Vehicle

The last year has seen Twitter take on several developers, whom they felt violated the Twitter API TOS. In most cases, the developers were forced to take down their applications or drop support for Twitter Integration. In what does seem bizarre, Myles Recny, creator of Followgen has preempted Twitter and asked them to shutdown his application for violation of their Terms of Service. Followgen targets a particular segment of users by favoriting their Tweets and in return, hoping that the users follow the company that favorited their Tweets. This is a form of advertising according to Myles and he expects Twitter to object to that. He also goes on to say that Twitter should ideally open up their Advertising API to him. Is this a new form of marketing your application ? Who knew that the Twitter API has uses far beyond what they imagined.
