Today in APIs: The Fifth API Mashup Contest and Factual Relaunches Geopulse API

Kevin Sundstrom, April 3rd, 2013

The fifth iteration of the API Mashup Contest is happening now. Factual changes the name, among other things, of the Geopulse API. Plus: Merging the mobile and physical shopping experience through apps and APIs.

The Fifth API Mashups Contest

In the fourth edition of the API Mashup Contest, FlashPanel was top dog. FlashPanel is a “user-friendly cloud management tool for Google Apps administrators that helps them better control and secure their Google Apps domains, delegate granular privileges to non-IT employees, and automate common management tasks.”

If you have an API mashup that you believe is as good, or better, than FlashPanel, you should submit it as a contender in the fifth iteration of the API Mashup Contest.

Factual Relaunches and Rebrands the Geopulse API

Factual has relaunched their Geopulse API as Geopulse Context. It is a simple change that hopes to reflect the “contextual nature of the platform.” This relaunch is not just a name change, it is accompanied by some major improvements to their demographic data. Data will now include:

  • Population density score
  • Median household income
  • Race and ethnicity
  • Level of education by sex
