EMI Music is one of the leading international music companies. An extensive list of some of the world’s most popular recording artists are represented on the company’s labels. Some of these artists include the likes of Lily Allen, Bat For Lashes, The Beatles, Beastie Boys, Luke Bryan, Coldplay, Depeche Mode, Gorillaz, David Guetta, Iron Maiden, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum, Massive Attack, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry and Pink Floyd, just to name a few. EMI Music now provides the OpenEMI API that allows developers to access this music content and integrate it with other applications.
EMI Music has partnered with Echo Nest to provide developers with the opportunity to access EMI’s extensive supply of music content. This comes out of a desire to give creative developers the tools they need to come up with some really great music apps. Developers are invited to propose their ideas for apps and services to the company. If these proposals are taken forward, EMI will take on the role of clearing licences for the app, marketing and more, with revenue being shared amongst all the relevant right holders.
The OpenEMI Music API provides access to content which is divided into various sandboxes. Some provide access to a variety of music from a broad variety of artists, and others focus on an individual artist, providing more detailed content such as audio, video, artwork, photos and more. For more information, developers can head to EMI’s website.
