Punkrock.org: Never Mind the Bollocks–Get the API!

Greg Bates, January 22nd, 2013

Punkrock.orgThe Punkrock.org API uses POST and GET calls that allow a user of your app to access their own user info on Punkrock.org, including friends, mail, notifications and allows them to upload photos. Requesting an API key is required for access to services.

Punkrock.org has polls you can participate in, such as this question: What band is more punk? Four choices are offered.

  • MisfitsBad
  • BrainsDead
  • Kennedys
  • Anti Flag

You can also connect with over 28,000 members of the site via its social network, as well as see their pages (and build your own), promote your own band, get information on events from around the world, see videos (such as the Vandals’ “Marry Me,” among over 1,000 others), listen to audio from songs, and invite others to join the site.

Billie Joe Armstong pinpointed the value of punk rock, and by extension, a site like this that helps fans connect,

Punk is not just the sound, the music. Punk is a lifestyle.

Punkrock.org contains a wealth of information, such as a breakdown of music by genre–by 42 genres, to be exact. Among the more famous are Anarcho Punk, Indie and Deathrock categories. But cowpunk was a new on on me.
