Campbell Soup Company has just launched the “Hack the Kitchen” Contest to find developers that can answer the question “What’s for dinner tonight?” by creating innovative web and mobile apps that use the Campbell’s Kitchen API.

Developers have until February 1st, 2013 to submit their Campbell’s Kitchen API driven app idea, keeping in mind that the primary audience for the app are people who cook dinner and are regular users of smartphones, tablets or HTML5 devices. Developers are also encouraged to include social media sharing options in their apps such as the ability to share recipe ratings, reviews and pictures. Sharing options can be added by integrating other APIs such as Facebook, Foursquare, Twitter, etc.

On February 11th, 2013, up to 30 developers will be granted access to the production version of the Campbell’s Kitchen API and will have until March 1st, 2013 to develop and submit a prototype for their app along with documentation. On March 11th, 2013 the top app prototypes will be announced.
The 1st place winner of the Campbell’s Hack the Kitchen Contest will receive a total of $50,000 (visit contest site for conditions). There is also a “Great Hack Runner Up” $10,000 award for “other great ideas that could be developed by Campbell in the future.”
