Dropbox Launches Dropbox Chooser and Receives Immediate Results

Eric Carter, November 29th, 2012

DropboxDropbox recently announced the launch of Dropbox Chooser. Dropbox Chooser simplifies Dropbox integration beyond the already popular Drobox API. Instead of integrating Dropbox files with a file browser or upload, Dropbox Chooser creates a small JavaScript component that developers can embed in apps that automatically publishes or attaches documents.  For the non-developer crowd looking to integrate Dropbox into apps and websites, the Dropbox Chooser button simplifies integration to the fullest extent.

Dropbox partnered with Asana and HelloFax for beta integration before the launch. Both partnerships produced quality case studies; but, the public launch produced massive interest and intriguing integrations during the first week. Mail Pilot adopted Dropbox Chooser as soon as it launched, and CEO (Alex Obenauer) exclaimed Dropbox Chooser’s benefits:

“We had always wanted to spend the time to support Dropbox in Mail Pilot; it was always one of those features on our “dreams for the future” list. But because of how much is already on our plate, we wouldn’t have had the time for one or more of us to learn the API, develop with it, and build a feature around it. The Dropbox Chooser completely eliminated this first step; there is no need to learn the API to implement it; it was as simple as a button and a callback.”

To utilize Dropbox Chooser, users must first register and create an app on the My apps page. Once the apps is created (and the third party app is registered) developers can embed the button or JavaScript. Those interested can learn more at the developer’s blog.

From its 2007 roots that sprouted from two students sick of emailing documents to themselves, to its 2012 global presence and 100+ million user base; Dropbox continues to revolutionize and simplify file storage and sharing. Dropbox Chooser represents another stepping stone on Dropbox’s disruptive path.
