Clickatell’s new XML based Connect API makes it possible for third-party web and mobile application users to register and activate a Clickatell SMS service account, buy messaging credits and two way messaging capabilities, and perform other SMS functions all from within the application. Messaging accounts and services are handled by Clickatell directly with application end users , so developers do not need to set up reseller accounts and licensing.

In the press release, Bill Wolfe, Clickatell’s Chief Strategy Officer and EVP for Small and Medium Business, is quoted as saying:

“It is our goal to provide a reliable, simple solution for application developers to work with any system to set up and send messages throughout the Americas region. We believe these new APIs address some of the biggest concerns for software developers and we’re excited to share this new offering with our customers.”

Additional information about the Connect API is provided on the Developers Site. Clickatell has also provided a PDF that developers can download.

There is no cost for developers to use the Connect API in their applications. Pricing for SMS messaging services can be found on the Clickatell site.
