Tired of physical signatures interrupting your document workflows? HelloSign released the HelloSign API that allows developers to integrate eSignatures into websites, apps, or company processes. HelloSign’s creators were first bothered by paper’s inefficiency and wastefulness, and the irritation led to HelloFax. HelloFax exploded and that led to a deeper revolution against paper processes: the HelloSign API and its accompanying HelloSign Manifesto:
“Contracts are the legal glue of society, yet, the way we create agreements comes at a high cost – we print, sign scan, shred, fax and fedex millions of pieces of paper each year. Our manifesto is simple. Everyone, everywhere, should use digital signatures. And, they should be free.”
The HelloSign API uses REST protocol and a JSON data format. The API supports over 15 document types (pdf, doc, ppt, etc.), and the team welcomes the opportunity to support additional formats in response to requests. Developers simply attach files with an API request and HelloSign appends a signature page with a place for each person to sign. Additionally, users can create templates for reusable forms that require eSignatures.
eSignature consistently disrupts the status quo as traditional processes requiring personal authentication have long been time intensive and paper heavy. One of the ongoing barriers to eSignature’s birth as a mainstream technology regards its cost. HelloSign may have eliminated this barrier with its zero-cost model.
