The growth in APIs is rapidly expanding. That’s clear. Social has out-paced overall API growth and in the last year settled in as a major trend. Sure, there are big names, like the Facebook API and Twitter API. There are also newcomers like Google Plus and Pinterest. There are now well over 800 social APIs, helping developers capitalize on humans’ natural desire to communicate with each other.

ProgrammableWeb organized a whole track on social APIs at DataWeek in September. In the above video, ProgrammableWeb founder John Musser follows the growth of APIs and how social differs from the rest of the pack.
