This week we had 80 new APIs added to our API directory including a cloud platform resource scaling service, civic information service, car insurance rate comparison service, text to speech service and digital content promotion services. We also looked at an emergency notification system now available via API.
Access Taiwan API: Access Taiwan aims to use open data and a unified protocol to make the treasures of Taiwan more accessible. The Access Taiwan API provides developer access to Taiwan tourism and travel data through a free RESTful interface.
ActionKit API: The service provides tools for organizing and fund-raising by political and issue advocacy groups. The provider has leveraged experience with the toolkit used by by MoveOn.org to provide a widely accessible platform for online community building to promote social causes and movements in politics and the public sphere.
API methods support managing lists of donors, community members, and other contacts, including address and contact information, interests, contact history, and history of participation. Methods also support managing resources accessed by community members, including fund-raising appeals and other communications .
adFreeq API: adFreeq is a advertising solutions provider. They provide website owners, publishers, and other related industries a mutually supportive network. adFreeq offers adPortals that connect website owners with businesses and publishers in need of advertising space. The adPortals, once installed on a given web page, allows sellers to dynamically insert ads in real-time. adFreeq also provides tools and templates for ad creation. The adFreeq API exposes the uploading functionality and allows developers to sync up or download their ads in bulk.
Altairis PaleHorse API: Altairis, also known as Altair Communications, is a Czech IT company. PaleHorse is their mailing list management system. It allows users to retrieve information about a mailing list, add or remove subscribers, determine whether someone is a subscriber, send a message to a mailing list, and so on. These functions are accessible programmatically using SOAP calls issued in XML format.
Although PaleHorse and its documentation are provided in English, the Altairis website itself is offered exclusively in Czech.
Alteryx API: Alteryx is a platform for business data processing. It is intended for enterprise to have a desktop-to-cloud solution for analyzing a variety of data sets. The desktop is a data management platform that provides data importation and database functions for strategic analysis. Alteryx also provides app building tools and cloud services to enable enterprise to share their information processing widely. The Alteryx API exposes the cloud services’ functionality. These include sharing data-sharing and app deployment. It also exposes integration functionalities.
Amazon Auto Scaling API: The service supplements the provider's CloudWatch and Elastic Load Balancing services to scale virtual server resources up and down in response to traffic, resource scheduling, and system performance status. It automatically launches or terminates instances in the provider's cloud platform for flexible response to system conditions either detected or preset.
API methods support definition of resource groupings and assignment of processing capacity according to policies set beforehand matching system responses to conditions detected. Methods also support gathering and processing of system performance metrics and definition of system response policies based on those metrics. The API allows for notifications based on defined system events and conditions.
ArGo Software Address Verifier API: The ArGo Software Address Verifier API verifies an address by returning either "Valid", "Invalid", or "Unknown". Users may choose to specify a timeout point which, if reached, will cause the service to return "Unknown". This service is accessible using SOAP calls issued in XML format.
Atlantic.Net Cloud Servers API: Atlantic.Net provides cloud hosting solutions, including cloud servers, colocation, and virtualization hosting. The Atlantic.Net Cloud Servers API provides customers with a RESTful query-based Interface to access their Atlantic.Net services.
Australian Tourism Data Warehouse API: The Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW) is the national storage and distribution facility for Australian tourism products and destination information. Its contents are compiled in a standardized format and made available to tourism business owners, operators, wholesalers, retailers, and distributors for use in their websites, booking systems, and other digital channels. Information stored in the ATDW covers accommodations, attractions, destinations, events, guided tours, rentals, transportation, etc. This information can be accessed using a SOAP-based API that employs calls issued in XML format.
Azuralis API: The Norway-based service provides telecommunications functionality via voice-over-IP (VoIP). Services include multi-party calling, voicemail and text notifications, text-to-speech conversion, and click-to-call anonymous bridge calls that connect two numbers by calling both and joining them to the call. Services also provide international call forwarding, so callers can dial numbers local to them while their calls can be answered by remote call centers. Functionality is available either as a hosted service or installed software.
API methods support connecting and managing conference calls and other multi-party contacts, bulk notification via SMS text messages and SMS gateway services, and anonymous bridge calling. Speech synthesis messages allow delivery of text content via voice calls. The API also supports sirect inward dialing (DID) and session initiation protocol (SIP) for cost-effective international calling.
Batchex API: Batchex is an online payment solutions provider. They offer sellers, retailers, and other businesses tools for streamlined billing processes. Their payment distribution service allows users to upload payout data and set up billing schedules. Batchex will interpret the data and send payments as checks or electronically. Batchex will also provide reports on payment statuses and processing. The Batchex API exposes uploading functionality that allows users to load up payout reports and data.
BBAS Personal Data Repository API: The personal data repository is a project of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. The goal of the project is to build a digital infrastructure for scientific biographical information.
A suite of web services are available to assist with the semantic enrichment of personal data with place names, dates and identifiers. The services include one for querying the repository, one for recognizing place names within text, one for recognizing dates within text, another for the transliteration of strings from Greek into the Latin alphabet and one for finding common identifiers for people. The APIs use HTTP calls and responses can be in XML, JSON or text. The site and documentation are in German.
Cellcom SmsGate API: Cellcom SmsGate provides a direct SMS Service that enables organizations and business entities to send messages in bulk to the cell phones of their employees and customers. This service is available through a browser interface, or it can be accessed programmatically as a SOAP API. The Cellcom SmsGate website and the API documentation are provided solely in Hebrew.
Circonus API: Circonus is a performance monitoring solution. It bridges an understanding between the business and IT realms of enterprise. Circonus comes in three different products, designed for variously sized businesses. The ready-for-cloud solution offers scalable data storage and monitoring for small to medium sized businesses. The other two products are sized for large enterprises such as government and telecom agencies. These products offer large-scale data control and a service delivery platform, respectively. The Circonus API exposes the data management functionality for all three products. It is a RESTful API that returns JSON or XML-encoded data.
CloudBees HTTP API: CloudBees is a Java Platform as a Service supporting customers throughout the development lifecycle. Developers use CloudBees to build, run, and manage Java applications in the cloud. The CloudBees HTTP API allows customers to automate the platform.
CloudTalk API: CloudTalk is a platform for communications for mobile and web applications. CloudTalk's platform allows for voice communication for applications.
The CloudTalk APIs allow developers to access and integrate the functionality of the CloudTalk platform with other applications and to create new applications. Some example API methods include managing users and accounts, sending text messages, transcribing voice, and retrieving notifications. Users' scores from the various tests can be retrieved programmatically using a SOAP API. This service returns the requested scores as a PDF (base64 encoded).
DeployGate API: DeployGate is a platform for users to deploy, analyze, and update applications in real-time wirelessly. DeployGate offers a dashboard that provides information about applications.

DIDx API: The service provides for wholesale exchanges of registered direct inbound dialing (DID) numbers from sellers who have extra capacity to buyers who need additional numbers. It lists available blocks of local numbers within a particular market or area for acquisition by providers who need local numbers there.
API methods support listing of countries and areas within countries where DID numbers are available, along with numbers offered for those areas. Methods also support retrieval of information about available DID numbers such as cost, free minutes offered, etc. The API enables completion of a purchase transaction by the buyer and release of the purchased DID listing by the seller.
Dispatch API: Dispatch is an event automation system using email and webhooks. Dispatch offers automation of creating contacts, sending SMS messages, making calls, and more. Using emails and webhooks containing JSON, various events can be automated with Dispatch's features. DocuVantage API: DocuVantage is a document management service. They provide an OnDemand platform that assists businesses engaged in web marketing with the organization and distribution of their content. The tools included in the platform range from cloud storage space to workflow management and document digitization. This allows users to access, manage, and share their files from a centralized online location regulated by preset workflow principles. The DocuVantage API exposes integration functionality and allows developers to attach the OnDemand platform to middleware, 3rd party and other types of software.
dotNetHell Calcolo Codice Fiscale API: DotNetHell provides the Calcolo Codice Fiscale service, which allows users to retrieve an individual's Codice Fiscale based on their personal information, or to retrieve the code for their town of birth based on their name. This service can also check the validity of a Codice Fiscale or find the name of a town based on its code.
A Codice Fiscale is a tax identification number and unique personal ID code used in all interactions with government agencies and public administration in Italy. The dotNetHell website and the API documentation are only available in Italian.
dotNetHell Contenuti API: The SOAP-based dotNetHell Contenuti API allows anyone to publish content from dotNetHell – including articles, news, and tips – onto their websites through the use of canned scripts. Users may also retrieve a list of all tips grouped by category, but credentials are required for this service. Users may change the styles, colors, and fonts of the chosen content, using CSS to standardize the modules to the layout of a given website or intranet. The dotNetHell website and all API documentation are provided only in Italian.
EAST Search Engine API: EAST is a Tokyo-based software developer that specializes in providing Windows-based solutions for a variety of businesses. EAST Search Engine is a web service that lets users search for ZIP code data, search for address details based on partial information, and search for addresses by ZIP code. eBay Korea Auction Suggest API: eBay Korea is a South Korean auction website. It provides the Auction Suggest API to enable users to retrieve suggested keywords to use in the site's product search. Enliven Software Fidesic API: Fidesic is an online payment service built to work with Microsoft Dynamics GP and other accounting applications. It automates the delivery of invoices or statements as well as customer payments via email, fax, or US Mail. Fidesic also automates the receipt of Automated Clearing House (ACH) and credit card payments online using a customized internet payment gateway. FHIR API: Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources (FHIR) is an HL7 International interoperability standard for healthcare data exchange, specifying the semantics, structure, encoding and transport aspects of the exchange. The API covers the basic elements of healthcare – patients, admissions, diagnostic reports, medications and problem lists – with their typical participants and also support a range of richer and more complex clinical models. The simple direct definitions of the resources are based on thorough requirements gathering, formal analysis and extensive cross-mapping to other relevant standards.
Fiabee API: The Fiabee platform is designed for organizations willing to deploy cross-platform applications to mobilize business processes for internal and external users. The Fiabee REST API allows users to create and maintain cloud based file systems, synchronize information, manage accounts, and more.
FuelSurchargeIndex.org API: A collaboration between the shipping and trucking industries, Fuel Surcharge Index.org is a site that allows users to accurately calculate the fuel surcharge rate for a load based on the daily fuel prices along a route. Fuel Surcharge Index.org provides shippers and carriers with accurate fuel prices on over 5,500 truck stops that are updated every 24 hours and specific to the route that a load is actually traveling. FuelSurchargeIndex.org API lets users connect to the site's fule surcharge applications and input trips to receive a full set of fuel surcharge data. The API uses SOAP protocol and responses are formatted in XML.
GHNS Desktop Exchange Service API: Get Hot New Stuff (GHNS) is a site that allows users to create data files, share them with others, provide evaluation, and download files for installation. Its various implementations carry different names. The Desktop Exchange Service (DXS) permits the upload and download of very customized information. For instance, an upload call would include a data file, its preview, and its meta-information in one file. A download list request could be generated based on parameters such as time of last modification, popularity, data type, and more.
The DXS is accessible programmatically using a SOAP API. Although DXS is now part of Hotstuff, its WSDL endpoint still appears functional.
Google Civic Information API: The Google Civic Information API allows developers to access civic information including polling place, early vote location, candidate data, and election official information for use in third party applications. The API data available currently focuses on election related information. The API uses RESTful calls and responses are formatted in JSON.
GunBroker.com API: GunBroker.com is a website that gives visitors a way to purchase guns as well as promoting responsible gun ownership. Gun auctions and sales are conducted with licensed firearms dealers as transfer agents. Users can also find hunting and shooting accessories for sale. In addition, the site provides resources on purchasing a gun, selling a gun and getting protection for purchases. The API allows users to retrieve the information on the site and integrate it into third party applications. The API uses SOAP calls and responses are formatted in XML.
HIP Digital DME API: HIP Digital is an online marketer specializing in digital content promotions. HIP Digital licenses content and then delivers solutions that integrate the content into various promotions. These promotions include loyalty programs, sweepstakes, and customer retention plans. The Digital Media Engine (DME) API gives users access to HIP Digital's catalog of content for use in their own websites. Functionality includes full catalog search and browse, access to playlists, secure downloads, recommendations and more. Public documentation is not available.
HP Imaging Cloud Photo Suite API: HP Labs is a division of HP dedicated to researching and developing a greater expertise in a wide range of technical disciplines. The HP Imaging Cloud Photo Suite is a collection of services hosted on the HP Cloud that developers are invited to utilize in applications. The services include: the BRIC Photo layout API that auto-adjusts aspect ratios and photo sizes to fit the most pictures on a single page. The Page PIrate API takes photos of written information and sharpens the text and adjusts image aspects to make the information legible. Inishtech API: InishTech, from Software Potential, is a cloud based software monetization service. The service lets users manage and control their software in the marketplace by providing the ability to license, package, protect the code and view usage analytics. A set of APIs is available that allows users to integrate license management and control capabilities with their application. Functionality exposed via the API includes the ability to control and automate tasks such as example license request, license activation, license query, feature checks, license updates and more. Iovation ReputationManager 360 API: Iovation is a provider of enterprise online protection services. Their solutions are used to identify malicious website visitors and to minimize fraud and abuse. Their ReputationManager360 leverages a global database of fraud and abuse to provide real-time protection giving uses the ability to configure business rules, account relationships, device profiles and device anomaly checks. Mal's e-commerce API: Mal's e-commerce is a hosted shopping cart application for ecommerce providers. Users can add a "Buy Now" button next to the products on their websites and when a customer clicks those buttons, they are taken to their shopping cart that is hosted on the Mal's e-commerce servers. Service features include no limit on the number of products, online credit card support, the ability to issue gift or discount coupons, compatibility with mobile devices and more. The RESTful API uses XML responses and is only available to Premium accounts.
Malvee Jobber API: Malvee builds apps for small business and enterprises. Malvee’s Jobber app is a tool that helps managers and human resources officers gauge employee satisfaction. Jobber has multiple functions that allow small businesses or enterprises to customize the app’s scale and questionnaire. Enterprises can, for instance, set quizzes to different languages for their locations in non-English speaking countries. Jobber provides an analytical dashboard that compares data from the quizzes. The Jobber API exposes group, questionnaire, and answer options functionalities. It is a RESTful API that returns JSON-encoded data.
MECAPI API: The service provides web access to the MeCab language analysis tool, which breaks down Japanese texts into parts of speech and other morphological elements. It seeks to analyze a text passage based on a general-purpose dictionary and reference collection to reveal structure and word use embedded in the sample. It builds on a Markov model of word sequence, but attempts to improve analytical performance by introducing randomized elements. An open-source installed version is available.
API methods support submission of a Japanese-language text passage (assumed to be a complete sentence) with filters to select only nouns or only unique words. Methods return analysis and breakdown of the passage according to its word choice, parts of speech, implied inflection, and related characteristics.
MLBS.net NAC Geoservices API: The service provides geolocation and geocoding services based on a Natural Area Code (NAC). Accuracy can vary, from a two-character code identifying an area roughly 1000 km east-to-west and 750 km north-to-south to a ten-character code marking a location approximately 1 square meter anywhere in the world. Longer NACs can function as Universal Addresses, because they are accurate to the size of a building.
API methods support generation of NAC values at either two-, four-, eight-, or ten-character accuracy based on input of location coordinates such as a street address or latitude/longitude coordinates. Methods provide for both geocoding and reverse geocoding, along with mapping coordinates, route planning, and definition of a great circle path between specified points. API documentation is available, but additional information is sparse and dated, so viability of the service may be in question.

Montel Online API: Montel is an independent news and data provider for the wholesale power sector and related commodities markets. Montel provides price-driving news, real-time data and technical analysis. In addition to the latest news, Montel also maintains an archive of over 60,000 news stories. An API is available that lets users access all of the site's real-time and historical market data. Public documenation for the API is not available.
multimobil API: The service, based in Sweden, provides services for mobile devices including messaging and online payments via all mobile operator networks. It enables both SMS text messaging and MMS multimedia messaging for Swedish recipients, with options for interactive surveys. A mobile publishing service provides display pages for online marketing campaigns and shopping services for e-commerce, with payment processing via credit card.
API methods support sending SMS and MMS messages, both to individual recipients and to subscriber lists, and receiving responses. Methods also support mobile payment for online content and purchases via the shopping service. The API generates statistics logging system traffic and provides detailed reporting capabilities.
MyCaption Speech to Text API: MyCaption is a developer of voice enabled mobile apps. Their flagship product for BlackBerry phones is speech to text software. It can be used to voice enable users' email, text messaging, and PIM functions as well as sycing with Microsoft Outlook and Gmail. MyDivert API: The service provides incoming VoIP telephony functions for accepting and answering international calls. New Penn operates a fleet of over 850 tractors and 1,700 trailers. It also specializes in tracking technologies and Internet-based shipping services. New Penn offers volume spot rate quotes on shipments over 5,000 pounds. An API is available that duplicates the functionality of this service. Public documentation for the API is not available.
Ninja Blocks API: Ninja Blocks provides a platform allowing developers to build web and mobile apps that interact with hardware. The Ninja Blocks API provides a RESTful interface for developers to interact with the platform, implemented as JSON over HTTP.
OLI-it API: OLI-it allows users to post messages online to make general or specific requests for information, goods, or services. Other logged-in users may then reply to the posted messages. All queries are publicly visible. OLI-it provides a collection of SOAP-based APIs that enable users to access the website's functions programmatically.
The website is offered primarily in German, though parts of it (not including API documentation) are available in English and Spanish as well. Most of the queries have been written in German.
PassDock API: PassDock is a service that allows users to create and generate "passes" and content for Apple's PassBook. PassDock offers various templates to create boarding passes, event tickets, coupons, and store cards for PassBook.

PlaceEngine API: The service interacts with client software on a mobile device to sense presence of wifi networks and determine the device's physical location within Japan based on that access. The local client retrieves listings of wifi networks currently available to the device and submits the information to the server, which returns a location suggested by that combination of network access. The service maintains a database of locations and wifi access profiles which users can update to increase its accuracy over time.
API methods log device characteristics and wifi access as reported by the installed client and return matching location, with estimated accuracy within 5-100 feet, depending on the density of wifi access points and other variables. Methods also allow device reports to update the database of locations and wifi access points available there.
Progressive SuperCREWS API: Progressive Casualty Insurance Company provides information comparing the rates of other major insurance companies to its own. The SuperCREWS API provides programmatic access to this information in a string or in ticker format. Users can input criteria such as age, gender, marital status, state of residence, and type of car and then receive their unique insurance rate comparison information. This service is accessible using SOAP calls and returns information in XML format.
Project Bamboo API: The service provides research environments to aid research in the humanities work across different institutions. Its infrastructure helps libraries and technology platforms to interact with humanities scholars and support their work across boundaries created by individual institutional systems. It seeks to enable applications for building content collections across multiple hosting environments, then curating and updating collection records.
API methods support search against a distributed collection with controls for filtering and configuring result sets. Methods also allow morphological and syntactical analysis of text assets to define elements contained and represent their structure in the complete text. The API allows scholars to develop personal profiles to encourage interaction with others who share their interests, with notifications of events and assets useful to them.
Project Kenai SunCloud API: Project Kenai is Sun Microsystem's cloud hub for developer that hosts open source projects and code and provides a forum for developers to connect and collaborate. ProjectBubble API: ProjectBubble is a web-based project management tool designed to save businesses time and streamline the management process. The service allows users to set budgets for projects, break projects up into smaller tasks, assign tasks to employees, invite them to join project groups, and also track project time as tasks are being completed using a web interface. The ProjectBubble API, using REST calls and returning data in several formats, allows users to upload and download segments of data from projects. The documentation is also available to develop applications around the ProjectBubble platform.
QXL Ricardo API: QXL is a Danish online auction site. It is the Danish brand of the Tradus company, operating a similar business to eBay. The QXL Ricardo APIs give developers access to the ecommerce platform's functionality. This functionality includes retrieving site configurations, categories, listing fees, promotional fees, state and payment conditions and configuration values for offers. Users can upload auctions, fixed price articles and classifieds and can download and manage articles from the MySelling section. The API uses SOAP calls and responses are formatted in XML.
RED ALERT API: RED ALERT is an emergency notification system to send mass notifications via phone, SMS, pager, and e-mail. It can also be used to send event notifications and event reminders on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis, and for one-time special events. The SOAP API allows developers to programmatically access RED ALERT functionality and integrate it into their systems. Documentation is not publicly available.
Roadrunner Transportation Services API: Roadrunner Transportation Systems (RRTS) is a transportation and logistics services provider offering a full suite of solutions, including customized and expedited less-than-truckload, truckload and intermodal brokerage, and domestic and international air. SDSS Cone Search API: The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is a project dedicated to mapping the universe. Over eight years of operations, it has obtained deep, multi-color images covering over a quarter of the sky and created 3-dimensional maps containing more than 930,000 galaxies and more than 120,000 quasars.
SDSS provides a SOAP API that enables users to perform a cone search of the night sky. A cone search is a (relatively) simple request for astronomical information, retrieving whatever is available for a given position in the sky and a given radius about that position. Users must describe the area of sky on which they want information in terms of RA (right-ascension), DEC (declination), and SR (search radius).
