Developer Events Roundup: Facebook World Hack 2012, Stripe’s CTF and more

Developer Events are fast becoming a preferred event for API companies to help promote their APIs, get developers together and build out some cool applications on their platform. We have numerous hackathons , Developer days, Online challenges that are currently on or planned in the near future. This blog post lists down some of them that you should plan on attending to meet up with fellow developers, learn more about your favorite API and hopefully win some prizes.

Facebook World Hack 2012

FacebookFacebook Developer World Hack 2012 is a series of events being hosted across 12 cities worldwide. The event kicks off in Austin,US on August 23 and winds up with Moscow on October 1. It is a single day event where Facebook Engineers will give you information about the platform and then you dive in for the next 8 hours to build an application. Apart from prizes for the best applications, the winning app in each continent will win a trip to San Francisco and meet the team. Hurry up since these events sell out fast. Stripe’s Capture The Flag

StripeStripe, the payment processing company, is on a roll. The second edition of Stripe’s Capture the Flag contest is now on. This contest is an artificially constructed environment to focus on web vulnerabilities such as XSS and SQL injection. The first edition was focussed on buffer overflows and more than 250 participants captured the flag. The second edition runs from 12 noon, August 22 to August 29.

THack – San Francisco

If you are travel buff and love Travel APIs, then you should plan on attending the THack Developer Hackathon that will be held in San Francisco in September. The event brings together travel industry professionals, API providers and developers to brainstorm and create travel products and web or mobile-based tools. TimesOpen 2012

New York Times EventsThe New York Times has planned a series of 1-day events that will culminate in a Hack Day in December. The 4 events planned before the Hack Day, provide information on different technology areas where you can learn about the latest developments in those areas. The first event was held on August 15 and covered HTML5, Apps and Javascript. The other events cover Sockets and Streams, Big Data and Open Source Science Fair. The finale is an all-day Hack Day to be held on December 8. Grab your tickets to the events now.

Fantasy Football Developer Challenge

CBSSports.comThis event from CBSSports.com has been underway since June of this year but if you have some spare time and love Football, you still have time to use the CBSSports.com Fantasy Platform to create applications that deal with Draft, Roster Management, Live Scores and more. The grand prize winner will take home a whopping $60,000. Hurry up since the last date for submission of entries is 5th September.

AT & T Mobile Hackathon

AT&T has planned 3 mobile Hackathons where you can build apps for improving a business or do social good. The events are planned in September in Los Angeles on September 7, Dallas on September 14 and New York on September 22. Visit the Event page for more information.
