Popular Video-Sharing Service Viddy Launches Public API

Janet Wagner, August 8th, 2012

ViddyVideo-sharing service Viddy has just announced the launch of the Viddy API that will allow developers to build third party applications using the popular Viddy platform.

Coinciding with the launch of the new public API, Viddy is also sponsoring a competition that gives developers the chance to win a $10,000 Cash Prize and the opportunity to interview for a position at the company.

Developers interested in entering the competition need to request permission to use the Viddy API at the Viddy Developers Website then “build the most unique & amazing app using it!”

In the announcement, Viddy states that “During August and September we’ll work with you, and our developers, on adoption of the apps you build, as well as promotion to our 40 Million+ Viddy Community. On Friday, September 28th Team Viddy will pick our favorite API partner, and fly you (or your team of up to 4 people) to Venice Beach for an interview at Viddy. The cash prize of $10,000 will be awarded at Viddy HQ.”

The Viddy API uses oAuth 2.0 protocols for all API authentication requests and requires an API key. Both XML and JSON data formats are supported.

Viddy has risen in popularity very quickly as the company was launched in April 2011 and now has over 26 million users.
