The Game API That Roars Messaging: Roar Engine Goes Urban

Greg Bates, July 2nd, 2012

Roar Engine Roar Engine selected Urban Airships push-messaging system to complement its cross-platform game mechanics and virtual products management API. The Roar Engine API will itself integrate with the Urban Airship API to send notifications to gamers.

Urban AirshipUrban Airship provides push notifications to send messages directly, Rich Push to provide more complex messages with the ability to track delivery and views inside your app, Push Composer, a reports feature, in-app purchasing ability, and a newsstand publisher. It allows developers to deliver paid content to grow revenue, gives customers control via a quiet time feature, and enables securing your apps with an IP whitelist and has multiple levels of fraud protection.

Through the combined services, developers can use Roar Engine’s leaderboards and social integrations to match up players that will then use Urban Airship to engage a player using push message notification.

“Many of the gaming apps we power have found push notifications to be essential in driving both user engagement and retention, as well as their own monetization strategies,” said Dylan Boyd, VP of Growth, Urban Airship. “With this partnership, game developers have a complete solution that handles all of the other backend services critical to commercial success, allowing them to focus on creating new and fun experiences.”

Roar Engine joins customers that include hockey’s Washington Capitals, Red Bull, Hootsuite and Airbnb. “Roar Engine is currently in public beta, with over 1,500 registered developers, powering games by Halfbrick’s People’s Republic of Animation Studio, PlayUp, and Neon Play.”
