57 Chat APIs: Skype, MSN Messenger and Google Talk

Our API directory now includes 57 chat APIs. The newest is the Imo Games API. The most popular, in terms of mashups, is the Skype API. We list 28 Skype mashups. Below you’ll find some more stats from the directory, including the entire list of chat APIs.

In terms of the technical details, REST and XML lead the way. There are 30 chat REST APIs and 10 chat JavaScript APIs. Our directory lists 27 chat XML APIs and 22 chat JSON APIs.

The most common tags within chat are 14 social chat APIs, 9 video chat APIs and 9 messaging chat APIs

On the mashup side, we list 67 chat mashups. We named Free phone chat as mashup of the day in December.
