This week we had 46 new APIs added to our API directory including a file storage/sharing service, location-based content service, MP3 archive, citation management service, application notification service and an online advertising and marketing service. Below are more details on each of these new APIs.
Adknowledge API: Adknowledge is an advertising and marketing service that helps advertisers and publishers reach their target audiences through various advertising and marketing techniques. Some example features include email marketing, optimized targeting, and social media outreach.
The Adknowledge API allows developers to integrate the Email Adstation functionality of Adknowledge with other applications. Public documentation is not available; API access is limited to customers. Interested developers can sign up here: http://www.adknowledge.com/publisher/email/signup.
Alameda County Service Provider API: Listings for over 400 social service providers in Alameda County (Oakland), California. This dataset was collated and quality checked over several months in 2010 and is a very comprehensive listing of social service providers in our county with rich details including service eligibility, opening hours, accessibility and more. API returns service organizations in specified categories. Service provider locations may contain duplicates since most locations provide multiple services across several categories.
Amazon SNS API: Amazon SNS (Simple Notification Service) is a web service that makes it easy to send notifications from the cloud to applications or people. Configurable platform for publishing messages immediately to any number of subscribers or other applications. Previously Amazon SNS supported message deliveries via http, email, or Amazon SQS queues. The enhanced, browser-based Management Console allows creation of topics you want to notify recipients (applications or people) about, subscribe clients to these topics, and publish messages over clients’ protocol of choice (i.e. HTTP, email, SMS, etc.). The service delivers notifications to clients using a “push” mechanism that eliminates the need to periodically check or “poll” for new information and updates.
Atlassian Bitbucket API: Bitbucket allows you to store all of your Git and Mercurial source code in one place with unlimited private repositories. Bitbucket includes issue tracking, wiki, and pull requests. Bitbucket aims to offer a suite of tools for effective management of code repositories for teams over any number of projects.
The Bitbucket API provides programmatic access to Bitbucket's services, allowing users to interact with their repositories, wiki's, issue trackers, and other users. Bitbucket's REST API operates solely over HTTPS, and can respond in either JSON or XML.
Baidu API: Baidu Search Marketing Service API provides a suite of web services that allow developers to interact with Baidu servers directly by API. Based on API, developers can build their own applications to manage their search marketing accounts.
The Baidu Search Marketing Service API is mainly designed for major user and third parties, including SEM, agencies, and other online marketing experts who manage multiple client accounts and/or large campaigns.
Please note that while Baidu has extensive documentation in English, the rest of their site is in Chinese.
BrickFTP API: Hosted file sharing service that works via the Web and FTP. Provides shared FTP server that allows you to send files to and receive files from your clients, vendors, and teammates. Service allows controlled access to part of an account's repository via an FTP program or the service web workspace.
CitedIn API: Citedin finds citations based on a PubMed identifier. Intended to find mentions of papers in unexpected locations: in blogs, databases, Wikipedia. Allows tracking of various resources citing a PubMed Identifier. Returned data can be narrowed by resource collection.
CiteULike API: CiteULike is a free browser-based service to help you to store, organise and share the scholarly papers you are reading. When you see a paper on the web that interests you, you can click one button and have it added to your personal library, and CiteULike automatically extracts the citation details. Citation library is stored on the server, you can access it from any computer with an Internet connection.
Click2mail API: Click2Mail Webservices allows users to write their own programs to interface with the Click2Mail system. This is particularly handy for automating your direct mailing workflow or adding direct mail functionality to an existing website or program. Our Webservices can help you reduce your operations cost by off loading the expensive and time consuming task of printing, folding and mailing your direct marketing or transactional mailings.
We offer two flavors of API protocols to best meet your programming style or platform: A SOAP API style and a REST API style. Below is a description of each and what products are currently supported through each protocol.
data.gov.au API: Data.Gov.Au is the online portal for the Australian government. Datasets are available for categories including business, environment, industry, news, sciences, tourism, transportation, and more. Data is contributed by many different government organizations and APIs are available for a number of these datasets. Dataset formats available are CSV, TEXT, XML, RDF, KML/KMZ, ESRI Shapefiles, and catalogues (e.g. listings of agency holdings).
DaycareSocial API: DaycareSocial is a resource for parents to interact with other parents, learn about current baby-related trends, exchange ideas, track and share their baby's progress, and more. DaycareSocial also provides a directory listing of daycare services, nannies, and babysitters. Access to this directory is also available via an API.
dotMailer API: dotMailer is email marketing software for targeted, online, direct, mass, and bulk email marketing services including email newsletters.
The dotMailer SOAP API allows developers to integrate dotMailer services with their CRM system, marketing database, or website. The purpose of this API is to allow subscribers to automate any of the interactions they might have between the dotMailer system, and their backend. A wide range of features are exposed in this API to allow developers to fit the service to their needs.
Extraterrestrial Embassy API: ETE is a consulate for higher sentient entities from outside the spatial bodies of the solar system containing earth. The Extraterrestrial Embassy API allows users to submit documents or files, and to create new categories, relevant to extraterrestrial sightings. Multiple files or documents can be submitted using their SOAP API.
find2follow API: Find2follow is a tool that lets users find interesting people to follow on Twitter. The API provides the same functionality and allows users to integrate it into their apps or web sites. Given a Twitter username, this interface returns a list of user profiles the requesting user may be interested in following. It uses RESTful calls and responses are formatted in JSON.
Fliptop API: Fliptop is a service that offers full contact profile information based on email addresses for advertising, sales, and marketing purposes. Based on email addresses, Fliptop provides social media profile information, such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
The Fliptop API allows developers to access and integrate the data and functionality of Fliptop. Example API methods include looking up emails, looking up emails by batch, looking up Twitter accounts, and looking up Facebook accounts and retrieving corresponding information.
Free Music Archive API: The Free Music Archive is an interactive library of high-quality, legal audio downloads. Every mp3 on The Free Music Archive is pre-cleared for certain types of uses that would otherwise be prohibited by copyright laws that were not designed for the digital era. Free Music Archive provides a basic RESTful API to access artist, album, track, genre and curator data, in XML, JSON or JSONP format.
Fwix API: The Fwix API allows users to programatically access geotagged content on their website or application. The API facilitates integrating location-based content, such as news, events, reviews, and photos, to geotagged content. Fwix allows developers to access places data for over 23,000,000 local business listings, points of interest, and locations in the US.
GraphEdge API: GraphEdge provides products to help users track their social networks including engagement, activity, and analytics. The API lets users track Twitter analytics from within their own application. Documentation is not publicly available but developers are asked to contact the provider for more information about the API.
Inwise API: Inwise is an international online newsletter and marketing company. They provide online services for delivering your campaigns, offers, newsletters, follow-ups, and auto-response messages.
The API allows users to programmatically interact with inwise services. The web service is based off the ASP.NET framework, so developers must send SOAP messages over HTTP to interact with the service.
LuxSci API: Lux Scientiae (LuxSci) is a secure web & email hosting service. Provides secure, premium email including bulk email and filesharing/hosting.
LuxSci's API allows developers to write applications which can perform account administration tasks such as updating, creating, and querying users.
National Map Viewer API: REST & SOAP webservices for the USGS National Map Viewer. Uses ArcGIS to display data views for areas within the United States. Options include local government units, weather, structures, transportation resources, and topography information.
Network for Good Donation API: Network for Good is an organization with the mission to make it as easy to donate and volunteer online as it is to shop online. They make it simple and affordable for all nonprofits, of any size, to recruit donors and volunteers via the Internet.
Network for Good’s web services enable a site's users to search for and donate online to more than 1.2 million charities within the website. Users connect the web services, which include charity search, the credit card transaction, the donor tax receipt, the payment to the nonprofit and all the reporting to nonprofits. Users should contact the provider for full details on the API.
Oakland Crime Reports API: Services to retrieve Oakland Police Dept. report data by OPD beat, lagged one week. Crime report data is summarized by the week, Sunday – Saturday. Starting date represents the first instance of a report for the week within that beat.
OneSchool API: OneSchool is an online resource that helps college students find local people, places, and resources in their college community. Some features of OneSchool include a directory of local restaurants, course information, campus news, a real time bus tracker, campus maps, and an online community for interacting with classmates and professors.
The OneSchool API allows developers access to the data from OneSchool. Data shared includes data on courses, textbooks, school events, faculty directories, organizations, and bus transit information from colleges around the country. Public documentation is not available; interested developers should sign up here http://oneschool.com/request_api/ for API access.
Oobgolf API: Oobgolf is a virtual representation of the social golfer network. It provides golfers with access to proven tools and concepts of social networking and consumer submitted and edited content. The RESTful API provides the user with access to site data. The data covers golfers, courses and scores.
Phish.Net API: Phish.Net is a fan-created and run website for fans of the musical group Phish. The site "serves to compile, preserve, and protect encyclopedic information about Phish and their music." A public API is available, as well as a protected API requiring an API key.
PHP Object Generator API: From their site: PHP Object Generator, (POG) is an open source PHP code generator which automatically generates clean & tested Object Oriented code for your PHP4/PHP5 application. By generating PHP objects with integrated CRUD methods, POG gives you a head start in any project.
Using the POG API, developers can generate objects without having to go through the POG web interface (http://www.phpobjectgenerator.com). Instead, using SOAP, developers can generate PHP Objects remotely for use in their own web applications.
PSLC DataShop API: The DataShop is a service of the Pittsburg Science of Learning Center (PSLC). The DataShop is a repository for research data and also provides analysis and reporting tools. DataShop data may be queried and retrieved via a RESTful API. Responses are returned in XML or tab-delimited text. Future plans for the API include the ability to upload data as well.
Rollbase hosted service API: Rollbase is a cloud platform for creation of software as a service (SaaS) business applications using point-and-click, drag-and-drop tools in a standard web-browser. Most applications can be built by business analysts and web developers without requiring a team of more advanced developers.
Sauce Labs API: Web-based design, debuging, and testing tools via cloud-hosted browsers. Allows keyboard and mouse control of virtual browsers with automatic tracking, including videos and screenshots of your session.
The Sauce REST allows users to retrieve information about Sauce Labs resources programmatically over HTTP using JSON. Users can create sub-accounts, retrieve account information, retrieve job information, video replays of tests, selenium logs of tests, start and stop Sauce Connect tunnel endpoints, and more.
SchoolTube API: Educational video hosting/serving with a SOAP API that supports functions such as interfacing with the video search engine and getting information about a user. Intended as safe environment for school-related video storage and exchange. API calls must specify the version, e.g. for version 0.1.2 the URL would be http://api.schooltube.com/0.1.2/wsdl
SilverRail Technologies API: SilverRail Technologies offers a global rail platform to improve online travel planning. They consolidate passenger rail content from around the world into a single integrated technology platform to help Railways and Travel Distributors to easily connect with each other. Their API allows travel sellers to access fares and pricing, routes and schedules, payment processing, rules and ticketing information.
Travel Sellers may choose to access the rail product via either of two technologies offered by SilverRail:
WEB SERVICE: Air-like interface, standardized queries and responses and end-to-end functionality across global rail content.
WHITE LABEL: Customized websites and widgets available for immediate website plug-in, leveraging the SilverRail Web Service.

Stella API: Stella is a tool for monitoring and debugging web sites and applications. The API, currently in private beta, can be used to generate HTTP traffic. Users can run checkups, execute multi-step transactions, pull performance data and more. Full documentation is not available but developers are asked to sign up and request access.
Streamfinder API: Streamfinder is an online directory for users to find streaming radio stations from all over the world. Users can search the directory by keyword, genre, and artist name. Users can also save their favorite stations in their profile.
The Streamfinder API allows developers to access and integrate the data and functionality of Streamfinder into other applications and services. Some example API methods include searching radio stations by genre, country, and keywords, listing top radio stations by genre, and retrieving radio station information.
SublimeVideo API: SublimeVideo is an HTML5 video player service. SublimeVideo is compatible with a variety of browsers and mobile platforms. Users can manage their video content and integrate video content into other sites.
The SublimeVideo API allows developers to access and integrate SublimeVideo's functionality into other applications. Some example API methods include playing video, stopping video, loading video, resizing video, and restoring video.
Sunlight Foundation's Party Time! API: Party Time is a resource of the Sunlight Foundation. Party Time is a database of invitations for fundraisers, in the form of breakfasts, barbecues, happy hours, concerts, and more, for lawmakers by lobbyists, Political Action Committee representatives, and others. The purpose of this site is to make more transparent the flow of money to candidates and lawmakers. A simple API is provided for accessing invitations for specific people.
ThinkGrid API: ThinkGrid offers a platform that allows IT solution providers to move thier services to the cloud. With ThinkGrid, providers can create, bill and manage IT services from the cloud in real-time. ThinkGrid offers API that allow providers to integate their existing infrastructure or existing control panel with the ThinkGrid services. The API lets developers talk directly to some of ThinkGrid's systems via XML RPC.
The service API provides integration with ThinkGrid to provision items such as Hosted Exchange, Dynamic Servers or Desktops with remote calls. Provisioning, management and other elements of the services can be done on the fly.
Customer Management APIs
For users wishing to utilise some of ThinkGrid's billing platform, customer data can be managed along side the Service API, allowing for pricing, upgrade paths and even a store to be integrated directly.

Tianji API: Tianji is China's leading social networking service dedicated to business networking for professionals. The Tianji Graph API is a simple way to bring a professional social context to websites, applications and services. Each object on Tianji has a unique ID which can be used to call the information attached to it including any relationships or connections that exist between the objects. An object might be a member, an event or a job and connections might be professional relationships, shared articles or newsfeed comments. The API uses HTTP calls and responses are formatted in JSON and XML.
txttools API: txttools uses a web interface to allow users to send and receive text messages to multiple people, schedule a message to go later in the day, week, month or year, and track the delivery of the message to mobile devices. Their API allows programmatic access to txttools services using a SOAP and XML.
From their site: "Our clients are distributing information, scheduling meetings, sending appointment reminders and test results, changing arrangements, getting customer feedback and much more."
UpName API: UpName is a search and comparison tool for domain names. Users can search for available domain names, as well as domains that are for sale. UpName also displays current domain name auctions.
The UpName API allows developers to access and integrate UpName's functionality into other applications. Some example API methods include searching for domain names, finding similar domain names, returning domain name trading history, and returning other information about domain names.
Verizon Terminal Status API: The Verizon Terminal Status API allows developers to access Verizon's service for determining if a mobile device is online or offline. The Terminal Status API allows your application can then intelligently direct traffic (e.g., messages), make requests (e.g., location) or otherwise interact with that mobile device by leveraging the Verizon network to detect the presence of active devices.
This API uses both REST and SOAP protocols.
Web Form Factory API: From their site: Web Form Factory is an open source web form generator which automatically generates the necessary backend code to tie your form to a database.
The WFF SOAP API gives the same result as the zip file provided to WFF users who use the main interface. The API can return a string representation of the said zip package you can extend with your own content, zip it, and present it to the user of your web-application.
worldweatheronline API: Local weather API with current conditions and 5-day forecast for worldwide locations. The user can query via UK Postcode, Canada Postal code, U.S. Zip code, city and town name (filter by country) or latitude and longitude. The marine or surfing weather API offers current and 5-day forecast for worldwide locations by latitude and longitude. Data returned include temperature, precipitation (rainfall), weather description, weather icon, and wind speed.
YouSendIt API: Cloud folders for free file storage up to 2GB accessible via mobile device, web app, or installed desktop app. Tiered pricing for larger capacities. Zypr API: Zypr is an application with an API that is designed to work across a variety of platforms, including mobiles, web applications, and other electronic devices. Zypr's API collects numerous APIs, like Facebook, Twitter, weather APIs, and Amazon, categorizes them based on function, and turns those APIs into one API.
Zypr's API, like Apple's Siri, allows developers to write voice activated commands for integration into other applications. Some example API methods include adding appointments to calendars, posting on Facebook or Twitter, and checking weather.
