Alibris Invites Developers to Hack Night and Developer Contest

Romin Irani, April 13th, 2011

AlibrisAlibris, an online marketplace for Independent sellers of popular, collectible and bargain books, music and movies has announced a couple of events to boost its developer community. The first is a Hack Night on April 29th and then a month-long developer contest that runs through May.

We had covered the announcement of Alibris Developer Network in December last year. The Alibris API currently provides access to search, reviews and recommendations for the items and works present in the Alibris Network. You need to register and apply for an API Key to get started with the API.

The Hack Day Night to be held from 5:00pm – 9:30pm on Friday April 29th in Emeryville, CA. You can meet up with Alibris developers, learn about their API over food and then form teams to work on an entry for the evening’s contest. The entries will be judged by Alibris developers with a total of $500 in cash prizes. Hurry up since the event is limited to 60 participants. For full details and sign up, visit the Event page for the Hack Day Night.

The next event is a Developer contest that runs till May 31st, 2011 with total cash prizes of $2500. This contest is officially open to residents of 50 United States (excluding Rhode Island) and the District of Columbia. The contest invites developers to submit applications that make use of the Alibris API. In addition to the Best Overall Applications that stands to win $1000, there are 3 other category prizes of $500 each: Best Android, Best Mashup and Most Fun application. For full details, visit the Contest page.
