“Ideas worth spreading” is the slogan of TED, the elite conference whose videos are extremely popular on the web. Now the potentially viral content will be spread even further with the new TED API for accessing the 900 videos and associated metadata.

TED will require an application process to receive access to the API, though developers need only explain their application’s non-commercial purpose. The announcement post says some of the metadata available with talks (and hopefully usable in searching) include “topic/tag, date, event, length, ratings, translations and transcripts.”
The API will be available “mid year” according to Fast Company.
