In the digital age, keeping yourself physically fit can be a challenge. What if you could manage your all your physical activities while at the same time engage your social network with it. Well, MapMyFitness, which runs a network of sites, caters exactly to that.
The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Start-Up Challenge returns for a fourth consecutive year. AWS is in search of startups that are using (or planning to use) any paid service from Amazon’s suite that includes Amazon Product Advertising API. AWS will award $50,000 in cash and over $140,000 in AWS credits.
Twitter may be taking a card from the Facebook playbook. Along with its launch of the new design earlier this week, the company’s flagship site now has plenty of new screen real estate. We are now seeing a next step in the process to involve citizens to solve challenges that government agencies face today and rewarding them in the process. And now there’s a central place to find these government challenges and contests.
Daniel Jacobson, responsible for NPR’s trailblazing API, is leaving his post to join Netflix next month. Jacobson will become API Director of Engineering for the movie rental service, looking to support the company’s continued expansion to additional streaming devices. At NPR for over 10 years, Jacobson launched its API in 2008 and recently supported mobile devices that helped NPR’s traffic double in a year.
Google Maps has implemented a much requested feature, draggable maps, into the Google Maps API. The feature has long been a part of the Google Maps site, but now developers can provide draggable maps for their users–and retrieve the results.
