Bed Bug Mashup Lets You Find a Good Night’s Sleep

Matthew Casperson, September 8th, 2010

Yahoo MapsSleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite. This is a cute saying if you have never had the misfortune of actually letting the bed bugs bite. But a quick Google image search shows that these little critters are no fun at all. A Yahoo Maps mashup is trying to help you find them before they get you.

One of the issues with bed bugs is that it can be hard to tell if a room has been infested. And according to the New York times, complaints about bed bugs are on the rise.

For those looking for a good nights sleep, the Bed Bug Registry offers a quick way to search for reported bed bug infestations:

The Bed Bug Registry is a free, public database of user-submitted bed bug reports from across the United States and Canada. Founded in 2006, the site has collected about 20,000 reports covering 12,000 locations.

Using Yahoo Maps, users can add reports of their encounters with bed bugs, or search for existing reports by address. Like any public database you do have to take some reports with a grain of salt, but the site operator estimates that around 90% of the posts are genuine.

OMG this is horrible, and things just seem like they keep getting worse. I was at war with bedbugs for what seemed like forever. The biggest problem I had was trying to find a non-toxic and professional solution.Getting rid of bed bugs is different than getting rid of termites or other types of pests…
