Though it may not seem that important, the aesthetics of your site’s search interface, and the way the results are displayed, are both important elements that can influence the experience of your site’s visitors.

URL Shortener Gets Squeezed Out, Discontinues Service

tr.imPopular URL shortening site tr.im has quickly shuttered its service due to lack of revenue potential (our tr.im API profile). One of tr.im’s creators, Eric Woodward, also referenced Twitter’s choice of bit.ly (our bit.ly API profile) as a default URL shortener as factoring into their decision.


23 APIs Used in 7 Days: Bing, Twitter, Amazon, Yahoo and Google

This past week 20 new mashups were add to our mashup directory and 23 different APIs were used to build them. Some of the newer or less frequently seen APIs include DandyId, Google Gears Geolocation, ikregeer.nl, ShopStyle, Summize Twitter Search, TwitterCounter, and VideoSurf. The most often used APIs this week are Flickr, Google Maps, and Twitter. Overall, the most active types of APIs were: mapping (7 mashups), news (6 mashups), and video (5 mashups). The list below shows which APIs were used by which mashups:

LyricWiki API Runs Into Trouble Over Lyric Licensing

LyricWikiIn another example of the ongoing battle over copyright, LyricWiki, the popular song lyric index and wiki, recently announced a major change that significantly reduces the functionality of its API (our LyricWiki API Profile). Although the API has not been shut down completely, the recent modification removes the core functionality that allows users to retrieve song lyrics.
