It’s not often we see an API “go on sale”. But that’s what Google has announced regarding their Google AdWords API. They have a new version update but along with it, they have “holiday season API sale pricing”. The details of the holiday sale are spelled out in the October 20 AdWords API blog post “Happy Holidays! Enjoy more API units”:
We know the holiday season is a busy time for advertisers and often means a number of updates to your campaigns. We’d like to help out by providing you with more API units. Starting now and extending through January 15th of next year, all developers will receive a bonus of 20% more API units at no additional cost.
What’s an AdWords “API unit?” The AdWords API Rate Sheet explains it all. AdWords API units are the currency for utilizing the AdWords API. Each method you call “costs” a certain number of API units. When you make a call that operates on multiple items, the total API unit cost will be the API unit cost for the method times the number of items operated on. While most AdWords API methods cost 1 unit, there are some that cost 10, 20, or even 500 units. See the API Rate Sheet for the details.
Continuing with the holiday theme, Google is also promoting strategies to help you cut API calories from your app, and avoid excess API holiday weight.
As for the newly updated API, the AdWords v13 API enhancements include new geotargeting options, active campaign and ad group retrieval methods, campaign budget suggestions, and more.
