12 Social Bookmarking APIs

John Musser, September 28th, 2007

Earlier this week Alex Iskold over at Read/WriteWeb took a good look at social bookmarking services but one of the things not covered in that piece, but of interest here, is just how many of the competitors in that space offer an API. How many? As of now we have 12 bookmarking APIs in our catalog. Not only was the del.icio.us service very successful, so was the del.icio.us API. We continue to regularly see new del.icio.us apps and you can browse from 88 del.icio.us mashups here.

In terms of the bookmark API competition, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Here’s a rundown of the players:

For a good example of a bookmarking mashup check out the popular Cloudalicious, a visualization that shows you the count of del.icio.us tags applied to a given URL over time.
