6 Ways to Find Parking by Mashup

John Musser, September 14th, 2007

Here’s a somewhat unlikely mashup niche: finding a parking space for your vehicle. These 6 mashups give you ways to find a spot at the airport, in NYC, SF or other locales, and to do so by mobile phone and even with realtime space availability:

  • Parking Carma: Unique service that determines the real-time availability of parking spaces and plots them on a Google Map. Their patented SmartParking Information Network (SPIN) is based on a “network of wireless sensors and interfaces to gather, organize, analyze, and process parking information from off-street parking facilities, and then distribute it to drivers and local organizations in a convenient, easy-to-use manner.”

  • Find Parking by Phone: If you are stuck downtown and need to find parking. Ask 411Sync and get back a list of all parking spots within a 1 mile radius. Use WAP, SMS or EMAIL. Just send the zip code. If using WAP, also see the spots on a small map (uses the Yahoo Map Image API)
  • Find Airport Parking: A single place to find everything you need when rushing to the airport and need parking. Find out which airport parking facility is closest to you or to the airport, which is cheapest.

Location or city-specific mashups include:

  • NYC Parking Garage Rates: Search and browse through NYC parking garages to find the best prices.
  • Motorcycle Parking in San Francisco: A mashup showing Motorcycle Parking Sopts in San Francisco using Google Maps
  • Parking Maps Singapore: Using carpark information and map information from OneMotoring.com.sg and Google Maps respectively, users can have a birds-eye view of all the parking costs in Singapore.

Nice post, but you forgot to include WhereToFindParking.com.

This is the only site that lets you search for street parking availability (as well as parking garage info) so is quite unique. Drivers can search street parking regulations by date, time & cross-street on any computer or mobile device in Manhattan & Boston (other cities coming soon).

Using Google Maps API we have created an easy to use parking resource. We have parking spaces throughout the United States but most of our spaces are currently located in Boston, New York, Chicago, and San Fransisco.

Parking owners list there spots for free and are immediately entered into the database.
