As part of a new ongoing ProgrammableWeb feature, we’ll start providing a regular stream of links on a variety of API, mashup, tool and industry topics. Rather than group them just as ‘links’, these will be posted in a unified theme. So today’s are coding-centric. (Keep in mind, there are now over 60 how-to mashup and API articles indexed on our /howto page).

• Build a .NET App for Google Checkout: Good overview of the Google Checkout API along with a very complete .NET application. By Martin Omander (a member of the Google Checkout team) at the O’Reilly WindowsDevCenter.
• Preventing Unwanted Access to Your API: A simple combination of JavaScript and PHP to thwart some forms of unwanted access to API keys. By Cal Evans over in the Zend Developer Zone.
• Java and those pesky Google APIs: Short piece that inspired a long comment thread is based on a question inspired by the rise of web based APIs like those listed here: “What if the most simple way of doing things was not to use Java but to use a more simple language (like Ruby or PHP) instead?”. • RESTful Web Services: Since the majority of the APIs listed here use a REST architectural style, this very good Java programmer’s view of REST is a worthwhile read (a chunk is recommended for non-Java programmers too). From Sameer Tyagi at Sun Developer Network (SDN).
